We love WordPress.

We’ll say it again: we just love WordPress and can’t recommend it enough. As a matter of fact, this site is a WordPress site, as are over 50% of all sites on the Internet, including CNN, Mashable, TechCrunch, and more.

Learn More About WordPress

WordPress: A content management system (CMS) for your website.

WordPress began as a simple blogging platform but over the last few years has grown into a very robust and very popular CMS. WordPress can be used to power any type of website: sales and marketing, e-commerce, community-driven content, portfolios, and of course, blogs. For examples of some of the largest sites using WordPress, visit the Showcase.

Putting the power in your hands.

WordPress makes it easy for website owners (that’s you!) to change the text and images on your sites without having to shell out a lot of money every time you want a little change. It’s the easy, affordable way to have a dynamic site.

WordPress comes in a couple of different flavors.

It’s important to know that there are different variations available, and each has its own pros and cons:

WordPress.com Benefits

  • It’s a free service, and super easy to set up. Paid upgrades available.
  • All of the technical maintenance work is taken care of — Setup, upgrades, spam, backups, security, etc.
  • Your blog is on hundreds of servers, so it’ll always remain available, even under high traffic
  • Your content is backed up automatically
  • Your dashboard is secure (SSL) making it even safer to log in on shared WiFi networks

WordPress.com Cons

  • You cannot upload any 3rd party themes. They provide 200+ free themes and light CSS customization, but you cannot make custom code changes to them. *
  • You cannot upload any plugins *

* Those are show-stoppers for 98.3% of websites (we did the math), especially the no plugins one!

WordPress.org (self-hosted) Benefits

  • Ability to upload themes
  • Ability to upload plugins
  • Complete control – you can customize the code if you know how, or hire someone like us to do it for you.

WordPress.org (self-hosted) Cons

  • You need a good (WordPress knowledgable) web host  — This generally costs $9 to $99 a month, depending on the host.
  • Requires more technical knowledge to set up and run*
  • You’re responsible for configuring backups of your site*
  • You’re responsible for updating the WordPress software when new versions are released*

* We offer managed WordPress services that can take care of all of this for you, just $39/month in addition to the hosting plan — with this service there are no Cons for non-technical users!
